P0179

2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0179 indicates that there is an issue with the circuit that controls the fuel composition sensor. This sensor measures the amount and type of fuel in the system, and if there is a high input detected, it means that the sensor is not functioning properly and may cause drivability issues.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Illuminated check engine light

  • Decreased fuel efficiency

  • Rough idle or stalling

  • Reduced engine power or acceleration

Possible Causes:

  • Failed fuel composition sensor

  • Wiring issues in the circuit

  • Loose or corroded electrical connections

  • Failed powertrain control module (PCM)

Related Parts:

  • Fuel Composition Sensor: Fuel composition sensor monitors the composition of the fuel (ethanol%, methanol% etc) that is being used for combustion. Problem leads to poor fuel economy

Possible Solutions:

  • Replace the fuel composition sensor

  • Check and repair any damaged wiring or connections

  • Tighten or clean any loose or corroded electrical connections

  • Replace the powertrain control module (PCM) if necessary
