Description:

  • TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) sensor readings out of expected range

Possible Symptoms:

  • Decrease in fuel economy

  • The engine may lack power during acceleration

  • Difficult shifting or a failure to shift

Possible Causes:

  • Faulty Throttle Position Sensor

  • Throttle Position Sensor circuit is open or shorted

  • Throttle Position Sensor poor electrical connection

  • Defective Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor or Switch Dirty or carbon filled Throttle Bore

  • Torn or jammed floor mats

  • Throttle Position Sensor: Throttle position sensor generally denotes the position of the accelerator pedal. Problems lead to poor acceleration

Possible Solutions:

  • Check the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor connector with the key on and engine off. There needs to be a steady 5 volt reference voltage and an excellent ground.
